Project Right Start is the innovation of the board of directors of the Smyth County Community Foundation. After reviewing health Statistics about Smyth County and learning that 41% of the children here are Obese, and that diabetes, cancer, hypertension, lung disease, and heart disease rates are substantially higher here than in the rest of the state, they felt a call for action.
The Goal of Project Right Start is to make a long-term impact on the lifestyles of Smyth County residents by educating children in grades K-12 and their parents about nutrition, physical activity and  tobacco avoidance.

Project Right Start believes in three basic principles for a healthy lifestyle: eat well, exercise daily and don't use tobacco products. Generally, if you follow this mantra you will enjoy good health for many years.
